Being married to a Malaysian we have visited the country often over the past few years. The sweet smell of peanut satay frying by the roadside, heavy traffic, the 100% humidity hanging thickly all around you, carts of tropical fruits wherever you look. These are the things that most travellers take away. When staying with family, however, you see a different side of the country. Less exotic certainly, but no less fascinating. 1. Selenium ovoids 2. Tropical London 3. Howdy Partner! 4. Super express

6. Australian cows
On returning home we go through the usual post-trip routine: put the clothes in the washing machine, get to the shops before they close for milk and bread, clean the cobwebs, open all the mail, etc. In that interminable pile what should I find but catalogues for our very own Australian supermarkets. Each one advertising dependable but unimaginative staples, stressing the savings they offer in exactly the same way. I almost missed the non sequiturs of grocery shopping in Malaysia.
